Denise Hamilton: Savage Garden – Lioness at Large

Denise Hamilton: Savage Garden

Blurb:

Los Angeles Times reporter Eve Diamond has been looking forward to a romantic date with her new love, Silvio Angila, including an opening night at the theatre, cocktails, and the night ahead. But when the play’s leading lady, Catarina Velosi, fails to appear, Eve learns that she and Silvio share a complicated past. Despatched by his unsavoury friend Alfonso to Catarina’s home, Silvio finds a messy scene suggesting abduction – or worse. Eve must fight to clear Silvio’s name. But is he innocent?

Terrific beginning, not quite so strong ending (call me jaded, but I could see both the basic outline and at least some of the details coming from about the middle of the book onwards) — but still: another series I would seem to finally need to take a closer look at.

Michael J. Sullivan: Legends of the First Empire

Michael J. Sullivan’s Riyria books have been on my TBR for a while, but until I’d read two short stories from the cycle — The Jester and Professional Integrity — I hadn’t been sure whether his writing would be for me.  Then I found out that (much like Tolkien’s Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and The History […]
