Africa Reading List – Seeking Recommendations

In connection with my Around the World in 80 Books reading project, I have created, as an additional reference point, a reading list containing the books currently on my TBR with an “Africa” shelving:

http://booklikes.com/apps/reading-lists/974/africa

The list includes the three books set in Africa I already read in 2019, but none read prior to this year.

If anybody has recommendations for any of the countries not yet represented on my TBR, that would be phantastic (double extra brownie points for books by women authors).  Those countries are:

  • Burundi
  • Cameroon
  • Cape Verde
  • Chad
  • Comoros Islands
  • Republic of Congo (as opposed to Democratic Republic of Congo, for which I already have several books)
  • Djibouti
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • French Southern Territories
  • Gambia
  • Guinea-Bissau
  • Ivory Coast
  • Madagascar
  • Malawi
  • Maldives
  • Mauritius
  • Mayotte
  • Namibia
  • Niger
  • Réunion
  • Seychelles
  • South Sudan (as opposed to Sudan)
  • Swaziland
  • Uganda
  • Western Sahara

All recs welcome of course, but I’m finding I have a surprising amount of books on my Africa TBR already, for more countries than I’d have thought before I started compiling this list (particularly, though, for Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa), so I’m mainly trying to fill in the blanks at this point.  Thank you all in advance!

Halloween Bingo 2021: Card, Spells, Markers and Book Pool

Phew!  I’ve had blog display issues for the better part of August due to a stupid WP plugin acting up (and of course, it was a plugin allegedly intended to “facilitate” the import of content into my chosen theme — haha, right), but luckily they were resolved just in time for Halloween Bingo! (Gosh … […]

June 2021 and Mid-Year Reading Recap

Sigh.  Well, I think posting a monthly (and even half-year) reading recap a full three weeks into the next month has to be some sort of record, even for me, but here we are.  And I admit that at this point I’d even been contemplating holding off another week so as to combine this with […]

Dorothy L. Sayers: The Five Red Herrings

Dorothy L. Sayers is occasionally accused of having gotten too caught up in her research for a given book; and the two mysteries that routinely come up in this context are The Nine Tailors (bell ringing, published in 1934) and, well, The Five Red Herrings (1931), which, although chiefly concerned with fishing and painting, also […]
