“The HandleBards”: William Shakespeare’s Macbeth (The Dell, Stratford-upon-Avon, June 14, 2014) – Lioness at Large

“The HandleBards”: William Shakespeare’s Macbeth (The Dell, Stratford-upon-Avon, June 14, 2014)

Shakespeare done differently … but I think he’d approve and be as royally entertained as the rest of us – these guys are a total riot!

The HandleBards: 4 guys touring all of England on bikes with performances of Macbeth and The Comedy of Errors, covering all of the roles among the four of them and carrying all the props and equipment they need on their four bikes (which also feature to great effect in the performances).

Mid-play/on-stage costume change, with one actor temporarily serving as a human clothes hanger.

“Avaunt! and quit my sight! let the earth hide thee!”
(Macbeth and Banquo’s ghost [= the white handkerchief flitting through the center of the image,
in front of the hand-painted “castle” background])

“Double, double, toil and trouble”
(the Three Witches)

“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes”
(Macbeth and the Three Witches)

“Turn, hell-hound, turn!”
(Macbeth and Macduff, the final duel)

Michael J. Sullivan: Riyria

Sullivan instant recognition back in the late 2000s.  Originally published as a series of six installments, they are now available as a set of three books, with each of the three books comprising two volumes of the original format.  As he did with almost […]

Michael J. Sullivan: Legends of the First Empire

Michael J. Sullivan’s Riyria books have been on my TBR for a while, but until I’d read two short stories from the cycle — The Jester and Professional Integrity — I hadn’t been sure whether his writing would be for me.  Then I found out that (much like Tolkien’s Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and The History […]
