LitHub: 50 Very Bad Book Covers for Literary Classics

Source: lithub.com/50-very-bad-book-covers-for-literary-classics/

When a book passes into the public domain, it means not only that it’s available for adapting and remixing, but for reprinting and reselling with a brand new cover. Some of these covers are … pretty bad. Which, obviously, makes them very fun to look at. [Continue]

  1. Geez. What on earth were they thinking for any of them. Clearly, those who picked the covers had not read even a synopsis of the book.

Mrs. “Dolloway” made me laugh out loud.

    1. Me, too! And, yeah. One wider off the mark than the next. I hope nobody downloaded these chiefly guided by their covers … imagine the ensuing abject disappointment!

    1. One missing the respective book‘s nature, characters, plot and overall ensemble by a wider margin than the next! 😀 “Little Women” had me laugh out loud, too — I think my favorite, by and large, though, is „The Woman in White“. Because clearly there can only be *one* kind of woman in white … a bride straight from a glossy lifestyle or fashion magazine, right?? (Groan.) — And, too, the trio of covers for “The Awakening”. “It’s not *that* kind of awakening …” is what someone should have told the creator of all three of these, before it was too late!!

    1. Isn‘t it awful? Seems the cover designer concluded there could really only be one reason why the titular heroine is wearing white … it‘s a romance novel and she‘s getting married! (Sigh.) Imagine a reader who doesn‘t know anything about the book, either, downloading this based on the cover … they‘d be so disappointed! 😀

Michael J. Sullivan: Riyria

The Riyria Revelations are the fantasy series that brought Michael J. Sullivan instant recognition back in the late 2000s.  Originally published as a series of six installments, they are now available as a set of three books, with each of the three books comprising two volumes of the original format.  As he did with almost […]

Michael J. Sullivan: Legends of the First Empire

Michael J. Sullivan’s Riyria books have been on my TBR for a while, but until I’d read two short stories from the cycle — The Jester and Professional Integrity — I hadn’t been sure whether his writing would be for me.  Then I found out that (much like Tolkien’s Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, and The History […]
